Irish finals day at Whitehead brought 4 titles and great heartache to PGL bowlers on a blustery September Saturday.
The title rush started in the morning as the Belmont Rink ran out comfortable 25-14 winners over B Kane (PT). The victory was built on a fantastic front end performance from S Cavan and S Martin.
The Belmont club also tasted victory in the Senior Rink in the afternoon. R Horner took his second title as they again won with some ease against Donaghadee (NIBA) 22 – 12. The Four who won the British Isles Title in 2015 will hope to regain it on their home patch next summer.
The young guns took centre stage next when Adam McKeown ( Mossley) went one stage further than last season to take the Youth Singles with a 21 – 4 win.
Meanwhile Steven Shields from Ballymena took the Under 25 title with a win over his PT opponent 21 – 11. He had built an early 18 – 1 advantage but had to weather a fight back before claiming victory.
The Old Bleach Pair of M Nutt & S Kirkwood suffered last end heartache when P Smyth (BLI) played a great bowl to take a 2 and secure a single shot victory.
in the Singles M McPeak couldn’t make it a Belmont clean sweep when losing to B Kane (PT) 15 – 21. He trailed 0 – 5 after two ends and struggled to gain control as he remained behind at 7 – 12 and 10 – 16.
He started to exert pressure and lay 3 shots at 14 – 16 only to see Kane ditch the Jack for double on his way to victory.
