After a long days play in Dun Laoghaire yesterday the Private Greens will have representatives in four of today’s finals.
Stephen Coleman will take on Gary McCloy from Portrush in the Open Singles after defeating Ian Gillen (BLI) in a tense semi final clash on the synthetic surface last evening.
Coleman took an early lead and built up a 8-1 advantage before dropping a 4. He then moved 16-10 ahead lifting another full house but immediately gave 4 back as the game closed up. The big Ballymena man held his nerve however and took the game 21-17.
In the Youth Singles Comber’s William Orr had a great win against A Minish (NIBA) and now plays BLI Champion S O’Beien. In his semi final he always held the lead and from 14-8 extended his advantage to close out a 21-10 win.
Terry Crawford and Gary Eaton Jun (Salisbury) were again in sparkling form against the NIBA pair skipped by Mark Sproule. By the half way mark they lead 16-6 and lifted counts of 7 & 4 on way to a comfortable 28-8 victory. In the final today they will play R Leonard from the host association.
Dunbarton’s Triple of D Copeland / C McCartan / DJ Wilson had a close tie against N Smyth (BLI). Trailing 5-7 after 10 ends they lifted counts of 3 & 4 to ease ahead 12-7 and held on to win 15-11. In the Final they face Provincial Champions Willie McCaw.
It wasn’t good news for the other PGL representatives however with semi final defeats for:
R Cavan (Junior Singles) 17-21
A Kyle (Rinks) 16-23
W Angus (Senior Rinks) 18-25
