The Centenary year got off to a magnificent start last night (23rd March) with our launch event in the Linen Suite, Mossley Mill.
Our President Michael Nutt welcomed representatives from nearly all our clubs, Past Presidents, Honorary Members, the NI Commonwealth Games Council and other guests.
In his opening address he spoke of the history of the PGL, our continued success on and off the green and his hope that all members will join in the celebration events planned for the coming season.
Councillor John Scott, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council expressed his delight in being able to host the event and contribute financially to assisting clubs within his area in hosting further events during the year.
Dame Mary Peters, speaking on behalf of the Commonwealth Games Council, told of her own bowling history, noted the role played by PGL bowlers in many games and wished the League and its players every success in the future.
Mrs Paddy Wallace Spoke on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support which has been chosen as our Centenary charity partner.
The President then presented commemorative plaques to each club and copies of the Centenary book and badges to all present.
During the evening future events were outlined by the PRO, a display of medals, shirts and trophies was provided and PowerPoint presentations were shown outlining 100 years in photos.
The evening concluded with a buffet meal.
The next event will be the Official opening and flag unfurling at Old Bleach BC on Saturday 8 th April.
