The 1st Round of the Irish Cup always brings added excitement to the start of the season as everyone has a chance of having a ‘cup run’ and dreaming of lifting some silverware much later in the season.
The opening round draw is always keenly awaited and usually throws up it share of interesting ties.
The Senior Cup has kept a number of the fancied teams for Round 2 but perennial finalists Ballymena travel to Donaghadee while the tie of the round sees Belmont head north to do battle in Ballymoney.
There are quite a few NIPGL v BLI confrontations with Ewarts away to the synthetic surface at Dun Laoghaire taking pride of place. Willowfield and Transport play CYM and St James Gate respectively.
Larne also face a tough encounter as they travel to Letterkenny.
In the Intermediate Cup early Div 3 pacesetters CI Knock will entertain Magherafelt while Mossley, who have also started the season well, head in the other direction to visit Warrenpoint.
Cliftonville have a great cup tradition and will look forward to taking on another great name from the past in Queens Island. Ballywalter and Hilden will host southern visitors Bray and Skerries.
In the Junior Cup Portadown v Larne B, Cookstown B v Ards B and Dunbarton B v Ballymoney B are all cracking games.
