Minnis Trophy

The annual match to contest the Minnis Trophy between the NIPGBL and Kenilworth Bowling Club was held at the Dublin-based club’s Grosvenor Square green yesterday. The NIPGBL team received the traditional warm welcome and generous hospitality from their hosts as this friendly fixture resumed after a break of two years caused by the pandemic.

The magnificent Minnis Trophy was originally presented by Richard Minnis (NIPGBL President 1939), a member of both the Kenilworth and Larne clubs, and was contested for the first time in 1943. The annual friendly fixture raises money for charities supporting the blind.

NIPGBL President Peter McKnight is shown receiving the trophy from Kenilworth Bowling Club President Brendan Fairbrother after the NIPGBL team recorded a narrow victory in a closely-contested match.
